Which is the role of leptin in patients on the end stage of renal disease?
Abstract
The end-stage of renal disease (ESRD) is characterized by increments of plasma concentrations of hormones produced by adipose tissue known as adipocytokines (including leptin, resistin, tumor necrosis factor-alpha and adiponectin), possibly caused by both passive accumulation from reduced renal excretion and metabolic abnormalities induced by uremia [1].
